Battery/ Dropping Critical in Cold Weather Charge 5

Anyone got Charge and the battery just drops so quickly in the cold weather. I noticed recently whenever the temperature under 10C degree, the battery from full to around 3x% in the end of the day.

Hi @NgNgSituation  page 55 of the user manual has the temperatures listed for operating and not operating. Cold or hot weather would have an effect on these devices. Good reminder for people to be aware of their surroundings and that Fitbit devices get cold, too.

Stepping in the U.S.A. since September 2013. Android 14

I do notice about that in the manual too but I just don’t realise that thow cold can it actually sustain. But I can see what you mean now. Thank you

Got this on the Charge 4 too. Dropped 20% on a cold run (5c), then ticked up 10% after warming up. A few days ago, it actually died toward the end of a run, was able to eventually turn it on after warming up again.

I did some cold runs last winter, but I think I had it fully covered so it was warmer (those 🧤 with bibs or something).

Odyssey13...that temperature range, if taken literally, would mean Fitbits would be useless for months at a time (ie. winter) for many parts of the world. If someone leaves their device outside in cold weather, it makes sense that the battery would be affected, just like any rechargeable device.

However, the simple fact that a Fitbit is worn in close contact with human flesh pretty much negates the "reasoning" that cold weather is a valid excuse for a dramatic decrease in the battery. Surely, the device gains some "heat" from the wearer and I have yet to meet a person who's wrist temperature drops below -10C.

Hi, welcome to the Community forums, @NgNgSituation @Unclad9-Hazily-

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Charge 5 and the battery life.

I'm aware that many electronic devices can be affected by cold weather, but you shouldn't see an extreme reduction of battery life. If this is related to the battery, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this article. Keep in mind that if you turn on always-on display, Charge 5 has a battery life of up to 3 days and you use built-in GPS continuously, Charge 5 has a battery life of up to 5 hours.

In addition, make sure that you've also completed the restart procedure described here, as this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar.

Hope this helps, I'll be around.

Hi,

I start noticing that the battery is critically low after the upload. Recently I always have to charge it by the end of the day. Start at full 100% at 4 AM and 20% at 11PM in the very same day.

Hi,

Im not sure abt this one. But I usually walk from my flat to the university, it's just like 10 min walk outside, and the weather is not that critical, around 9 to 13 C degree, and I always put my hand in the coat pocket so it should not contact with the cold weather that much.

I think maybe because of the latest firmware? after upload I do notice it does suffer from battery drain too

I don't  have a Charge 5, but I bike outdoors year around in Illinois. At least 50 miles a week in the Winter. In 5 Winters with Fitbit so far and between the Blaze and Versa, I've had no issues with the Fitbits wayyyyyyy below 10c. Like -26c wind chills and less. I'd say the Fitbits have fared better than the phones. Have have phones shut off or refuse to charge until thawing upon returning. But no issues with the Fitbits.

Yes. Me too. Disappointed overall with Charge 5. Might just throw it away and get something better, simpler and more reliable.
