Battery life and firmware question Charge 5

Greetings all!

After the last firmware update say 6 months or so ago, could be longer, I noticed a drop in battery life. I bought this unit October 2021 and honestly it has saved my life. I have 2 questions ... just how long should the battery last? The second question, is there any movement on a firmware update to address battery life? I know I'm not alone in the battery draining so quickly. And if by chance support reads this I have gone through the support articles to make sure display always on and GPS is turned off. I just had to put the unit on the charger after about 72 hours of use.

I'm serious that the Fitbit saved my life ... my resting heart rate got down to 39 bpm before my doctors appointment. I'm lucky to be alive. Having said that, is it time to look at other fitness trackers?

Thank you for any information!

Hi, it's good to see you visiting the community forums, @SunsetRunner.

Thanks for sharing your inquiry about the Charge 5 and for all your feedback. I'm sorry to see you're having this problem with battery life, but it's good to know that you've had a positive experience with your Fitbit device.

The battery life of Charge 5 should be of up to 7 days, but because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary. There are a few features that would make the battery drain faster than usual, even in one day. Some of these features are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 days when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Tracking SpO2 (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

In general, it is recommended to follow the recommendations listed in this article to improve or extend battery life. It's also not possible to know when a firmware version will be released, but I don't think it will take too long.
