I have had two charge 4's and one charge 5 and each time they last in and around a year and a month (+/-). It feels like FitBit are building their hardware to last just long enough to outlive the warranty and not much longer so you're encouraged to buy a new product. This is so wasteful, not customer focused and contributes to the environmental impact of e waste. I will be moving to Garmin now. 

I only have speculative evidence for this coincidence that fitbits only last just over the warranty. Have others experienced this too?

Yep - happened to me too. Twice now - a Charge 3 and a Charge 5. Sorry Fitbit but a 35% discount on a new product does not make this right. I'm done with Fitbit.
