Purchased a new Charge 5 three weeks ago. Was excited to purchase it and save the money over an Apple product. Purchased it for steps and calories only to find it is very inaccurate in both. Tons of great info on this topic can be found. (examples: sitting in a van traveling for 7 hours showed a wonderful 2200 steps. Fitbit sitting on the coffee table showed I burned 600 calories in 2 hours without even wearing it. Really makes you have a lot of faith in the ECG app test or the heart rate monitor. LOL
Read the Fitbit return policy and what a wonderful policy. Only applies if you buy from them and spend an extra 30.00 over purchasing from an authorized reseller like Best Buy.
Now time to unload this **ahem**, so I followed the FitBit instructions and erased and defaulted the unit. Now it won't shut off and just displays info that I need to download the app. Going on now for 30 minutes!
Oops I did it again. Thought someone had a good product. Wish I had bought the Apple Watch!
Unhappy. U Bet!

Hi, @Oopsdiditagain welcome to the community, you may find these articles of interest How accurate are Fitbit devices? & How to make your fitness tracker count steps more accurately - The Verge These explain in detail how "Steps" are measured and the circumstances where there are sometimes miscounts. It's not just Fitbit.
Calory counts are mentioned in this article How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity? and explains how BMR is involved in the totals.
The ECG app is covered in this article What is the Fitbit ECG app?
Fitbit's warranty & returns policy is clearly laid out in this article you do not need to buy the extended warranty to claim under your consumer rights (in the law of the place you bought the device) If you bought the device from a third party you may be able to return it to the seller. You may have a problem if you bought it from an unauthorised reseller or second-hand from somewhere like eBay.
I hope this helps, good luck with your next wearable.
Cheers

Thank you for the information. I read through the links. I noticed here in the community though that many users have the same complaints with their Charge 5 as I do. Some indicate that they did not have these issues with earlier models. From what I am gathering based on my own experience as well as other community members is that the Charge 5 is a tool to assist with fitness but in no way represents any real accuracy with step and calorie counts. For myself, I want a tool that is accurate and if the company behind the tool states it records steps and calories, then it should be accurate or very close as to benefit the users. The Charge 5 does not.
