Can't download the Fitbit app on my phone to use Charge 5

Was so excited to get my new fitbit (charge 5) only to find that I can't download the app to my phone, feeling rather hacked off about this.  Had been looking at other wearables but decided to got back to my old faithful Fitbit, now am wishing that I hadn't 😞

From Fitbit-compatible devices 

"The Fitbit app is compatible with most popular phones and tablets. To set up and use your Fitbit products and services, you must install the Fitbit app on a compatible device running one of the following operating systems:

 

  • Apple iOS 13 or higher
  • Android OS 8.0 or higher "
