Can't rename workouts on the Fitbit app anymore

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Fit Bit used to have an option for me to start and finish a workout on my rowing machine and then go into the app and change it form workout to Rowing Machine. When changing it, it showed different metrics then what it shows now as just a workout. Is there a way to get that option back or request a feature added that I can add it to my Charge 5 so I can just directly log it from my watch?

Hello & welcome @Vanns

I moved your post to the Charge 5 product forum as it seems more appropriate.

The Product Feedback forum is where users can submit feature requests and other users can add their votes & comments. There's currently a request to add Rowing to Exercise app for all Fitbits (<-- click link). You might want to add your vote & comments to that request.

I understand that the developers check the Product Feedback forum to see what features are being requested and how popular the feature is with other users.

The ability to edit the name of a completed workout was "lost" after the Fitbit app was redesigned & updated. Initially, this issue mainly affected Android users. I've seen recent posts that iOS users are also affected. That said, there are workarounds. If you let us know if you are using Android or iOS, we can share the appropriate workaround.

Hopefully, this issue will be fixed for both Android & iOS users soon so we don't have to use workarounds.

Thanks for the link and info Reiko. I am on Android and if you could point me to how to update that from workout to rowing machine, that's be awesome.

I did go over to the link you provided and added my vote for the rowing app so fingers crossed that will get added at some point down the road.

Thanks again!

Hi @Vanns

Here's the workaround for Android that I've played with briefly. I've only tried it with my computer so I don't know how well the navigation works on a phone.

  • Tap on Dashboard at the top of this forum page (located between Help & Store icon). This will open your dashboard on the Fitbit.com site
  • Tap on Log at the top of the page
  • Tap on Activities tab
  • Scroll down to Activity History.
  • Click the pencil icon next to the completed workout that you want to rename & enter the new name. The site is designed to look for one of the standard Fitbit activities. If it doesn't find it, you can create a custom activity that will be available to you.

Just be careful when you rename a workout. I discovered that the site will allow you to edit the workout name only once. Also, I haven't been able to confirm if the pencil icon is only available if the completed activity was originally tracked as "Workout".

Hopefully, this bug will be fixed soon in an update.

It is very disappointing indeed. You can try the previous response to
renaming the workout in the fitbit dashboard but while that renames it,
when you previously could edit it in the app, it would also edit the
metrics that were recorded to reflect that specific workout. It's not ideal
but at least I can now differentiate if I was rowing or if I was running or
lifting
