New to Fitbit - Recently got a Charge 5.  I had Sleep Mode on manual but nothing showed in the a.m.  Now switched to Auto but bottom shows 'off'.  It says to sync in the a.m but do not understand?  Have I-phone.  MANY THANKS!

Hi there, @1NJ. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Charge 5.

I recommend considering the following in order to get sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

For more information, see What should I know about Fitbit sleep stages?

Have you tried disabling the sleep mode? When sleep mode is on:

  • Notifications, goal celebrations, and reminders are muted.
  • The screen's brightness is set to dim.
  • The screen stays dark when you turn your wrist. To wake your tracker, firmly tap the screen twice.
  • The sleep mode icon illuminates in quick settings.

Sleep mode turns off automatically when you set a sleep schedule. For more information, see Settings app.

"Sleep Mode" has nothing to do with detecting sleep.  It is just for turning off certain things that might interrupt your sleep such as notifications, dims your screen, and prevent screen turning on with wrist turn.

You don't have to use Sleep Mode to get sleep results.  But if you do use it, there are 2 ways.

(1) In Quick Settings, you can turn it on when you go to bed, then turn it off  when you get up.

(2) Or if you keep a regular schedule, in full Settings, you can set a schedule to automatically turn it on and off at set times and then have it happen automatically with no more interaction.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
