Charge 5: Here's a workaround for IOS users

If you, like me, are upset that Fitbit has removed some important and useful features from the app, I have a possible workaround for you.  Someone (I forget who) posted a way to view the old activity log format, which shows graphs for all activities and allows you to change the activity name.  This method works for IOS, but I'm not sure if it will work for Android.  Here are the steps:

  • From the home page of the Fitbit app, touch Exercise Days to display the Exercise page
  • On the Exercise page, touch the three dots in the upper right corner.
  • Select Manage Data from the pull down menu that appears.
  • On the Data Deletion page that displays, scroll down and touch EXERCISE (EXERCISE, LOGS, GPS, TRACKING).
  • On the Manage Data page, touch the link REVIEW YOUR DATA.
  • Voila!  Your exercise log appears in the old app format.  From there you can view all your activities and their graphs just like you used to be able to do.  You can also rename any activity to whatever you want by using the old method of Categorize Activity.

I am using workout which I don't think has the option of using GPS. I used to be able to re-characterize it but now I can't.

I never knew about this workaround and when I tried it today, it didn’t work. This is really something that needs to be sorted out.

What has been working for me, however, is editing activities via the online Fitbit dashboard as below.

Log in to your online Fitbit dashboard.

Click ‘Log’ at the top of the screen.

Click ‘Activities’.

Scroll down to ‘Activity History’ and click the little pencil beside the exercise you want to update.

Start typing the name of the exercise you want to change to and either choose from the existing results or ‘Create custom activity’ to set up a new one.

Click ‘Update’.

Your Exercise/Activity log will be updated in the online dashboard and in the app.

NOTE: After a few uses, a custom activity will usually be recognised on the online dashboard and in the app in the future if you manually log an activity.

This was working until the latest update which has ruined this workaround while also not implementing ‘categorization’ to the logged workout .. so now we can’t assign the workout type anymore in the slow/laggy **ahem** new app!
