Charge 5 Miscalculation in number of steps taken while driving

I have been using the Fitbit Charge 5 for 4 weeks now. I had no problems as such in the first 3 weeks. All features were functioning well and I was happy that I have finally found a device that would track my activity with reasonable accuracy. Last week,  I was travelling a lot by air and by road. I travelled for around 500 km by road on a car. To my surprise the device recorded that I had walked. My steps count was insanely high around 1,00,000 steps in around 5 hours which is humanly impossible. It is unfortunate that it is not a one off incident. Please let me know if there’s a setting which I have to use to address this issue

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @Akki92

Thank you for sharing your inquiry about the Charge 5.

As you mentioned earlier, unfortunately it is an expected device behavior at the moment to count steps during a driving activity. There's currently not a Driving Mode feature to avoid these extra steps. However, I do recommend that you vote for this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion board of the Community, since this is helpful for the team of developers to continue to track popularity and demand over time.

Keep in mind that you can’t delete steps and floors; instead, you can log a non-step-based activity such as driving to override the steps or floors recorded; you can check this article for more information. Other users have also found useful to connect the device to the charger while driving, as this prevents the device from counting any steps, but this is more helpful for short drives.

Thank you for taking the time to share all your feedback about this. The team of developers continues to work to improve the quality of products and services. I've also been informed that you already contacted the Customer Support team for further assistance with this.

See you around.
