Charge 5, Recumbent stationary bike tracking

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Since I upgraded to the Charge 5, the Fitbit no longer automatically tracks my rides on the recumbent stationary bike.  The Charge 4 used to show the tracking for this and it did it good.  Now the Charge 5 shows nothing. I rode the recumbent stationary bike for 20 to 25 minutes and nothing shows up when I sync the Charge 5 with the Fitbit app.  I have also selected Exercises - Bike on the Charge 5 and it does not track anything because I am on a stationary bike.

Any way to track these exercises on the Charge 5 would be good. Thanks.

@SunsetRunner I'd suggest using "Spinning" instead of "Bike" if you're training on a stationary bike.

It seems that, as Charge 5's built-in GPS doesn't get sensible data on a stationary bike, it doesn't track your exercise at all.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. 🤞

I use a stationary recumbent/rowing machine, a Stamina Conversion II. My Charge 3 would automatically detect and start recording stationary cycling after 10 minutes of "motion". My Charge 3 would also automatically start recording after 10 minutes of walking. It wasn't always dependable though, so I took to starting the exercises manually. My Charge 5 is also supposed to auto-recognize various exercise states, but I think it relies more on a change in GPS coordinates for detecting the walking and outdoor biking than some sort of repeated motion detection. I routinely start those exercises manually too, just to make sure they will be recorded. Lately, I've been using the rowing function more than cycling on my stationary machine, so I just manually start a Workout. After I am done, I edit the name of the exercise and change it to Rowing Machine. I know this defeats the purpose of the auto-recognize function, which we paid for and expect to work in this version of the Charge fitness tracker. I would much rather have a reliable recording though.

Thank you.  I found another discussion relating to the same and provided the same suggestion on using Spinning:

I may try using the Workout exercise to see if it can track my jump rope routines, which Charge 3 and 4 did well, along with other exercises.

Great suggestion.  Thank you.
