my Fitbit charge 5 came up with a circle with a Red Cross today, which I’ve never seen before.
I googled some ideas on what was going on and another Fitbit community post suggested I should forget the device and try to restore it again.
Tried that but nothing happened. Plugged it in to charger and it just flashes with the logo screen now and I can’t find it on my Bluetooth to connect to it again.
Don’t know what to do now - help!

I had the same issue a few days ago. I *think* what worked was removing the Charge 5 from the app (go to profile pic, click on Charge 5, scroll down and click on "remove this charge 5.") I then "forgot" the device on my phone's Bluetooth, then went back to the Fitbit app and Set up a new device.
In trying to troubleshoot, I saw there was a new update. I downloaded it right away. The red cross is gone, but then my battery drained within a few hours. I now see this is a common problem with the update. In addition, my heart rate is not being recorded and the LEDs are not on.
I'm not sure which worked to remove the red cross, but hopefully you can be successful by removing and re-adding the device, without doing the update.

Would recommend you talk to chat ASAP to see if your tracker still in warranty. I'v just had my charge 5 doing this and I think it's a faulty device. Updated firmware few weeks ago and everything was working great. Then lost screen and stability with repeat loop this is a device issue. Just over 8 months old very poor considering how much they cost on release.!!!

I actually took it to Curry’s where I bought it, they replaced it and gave me £40 refund as the price had dropped on it - bonus!

I tried doing this and it made no difference, I took it back and got a new one and have NOT updated the firm ware despite it asking me to whenever I open the app!
