I purchased my Charge 5 May, 2023. I tried to change bands with a band that came with my Charge 5 and it will not stay fastened. I am afraid I will lose my watch if I wear it. Any suggestions?

Sad to hear that you're having an issue with your Charge 5.
If you're using a genuine Fitbit band there should be no hassle attaching it your device. Please check if the clasp on your device can move without problems and if it is snapping back when you pull it. And make sure there's no debris in the slot below. Also please try if you hear a slight click when attaching the band to your device.
If in doubt, I'd suggest contacting Fitbit support for further assistance as your Charge, being less than a year old, is covered by Fitbit's warranty:
