Charge 5 battery - any hope?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

From reading the posts it seems that a rapid decline in the battery around the one-year point seems to be the norm. I'm disappointed but not surprised that the timing aligns with warranty expiration. Has anyone found a way to refresh or extend the life once it starts to die?  I'm careful with settings to maximize battery life but I'm having to recharging after 2 days.

Thanks

Hi, @Dshum , as you know, all rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles, and how long a battery lasts largely depends on how it is treated.  For longest overall life, the best thing you can do is to avoid deep discharges - ideally keeping your battery between 20-80% charged.  Charging little and often will give you the best use of your battery.  Occasional deep discharges will not do significant harm, but if you regularly allow the battery to discharge deeply before re-charging it will significantly reduce the life of your Fitbit.

The best recommendation is to put your Fitbit on the charger daily for 15 minutes (or a little longer if necessary) to keep it always topped up.  Many people pop it on the charger while they are showering/ shaving / getting ready for the day, or perhaps in the evening when they have settled down for some television or reading a book.  That will have the dual benefit of keeping your Fitbit always ready to go and giving your wrist a rest.

This is the advice I would give moving forward with your Charge 5 now that you have noticed some deterioration in battery longevity.  I hope this helps!

Julia, thank you for your input. I do try to practice good battery maintenance, but your explanation and suggestions are valuable.

I'm hoping the community might have suggestions for what do do once the decay is prominent. Unfortunately this isn't the first Fitbit battery that has died right around the one-year point so I guess I'm looking for someone to save me from my foolishness for continuing to buy/use Fitbit when I should have known better.

I do hope your experience is better.
