Charge 5 battery draining too fast

I have had the new Charge 5 for 2 days. The battery discharges within a day. GPS is off, the phone is not set to always on. In looking over the troubleshooting instructions from Fitbit, it seems that you essentially have to disable all of the features that were selling points of this device in order to get decent battery life. Even my ancient Charge 3 got 6 days on one charge! Has anyone with this battery problem found a solution other than disabling everything?

How many days did it last per full charge of battery?

Day 7: 29% left, no drops in charge levels so far.

I’m now on day 7 with 46% battery.

My Charge 5 was manufactured in Malaysia (parts sourcing, who knows).  I’m at day 3 post full charge with 74%.  Will update.

Day 8: 14% left in the morning and that means that 3-4% were consumed by sleep.

@Charon

That's remarkable! Can you please also advise what settings are you using? Also, do you leave the Bluetooth on your phone on or off?

@Bike-man interesting, mine says 'made in China' I am wondering if that might explain why some people are getting 8 days with regular use and others are having the battery drain. Could be they are made in different places with different suppliers for the battery.

Does anyone else here have a 'made in Malaysia' unit that has the battery life issue?

@Charon where was your unit made, Malaysia or China ?

Interesting indeed.  I’m at the end of day 4 post full charge with 54% remaining.  I hope I won’t see the dreaded 50% rapid discharge syndrome as experienced by others.

Got an email for the replacement. Checked where it’ll come from. It’ll be shipped from china to here at the philippines. Hope this replacement wont have battery issue anymore.

I am at the end of my 4th day and it dropped from 54% thus morning at 9 am down to 21% at 10:22. It dropped 3% in 20 minutes. It's now down to 20% at 10:53 pm. In 16 minutes it dropped a percentage

Glad you are getting a replacement. Hope it works better for you! I have yet to hear back from them after I responded back to them with the information they wanted in an email. Not holding my breath that I will. If I don't hear by tomorrow morning I will contact them again.

I coordinated with their instagram account here and they were pretty responsive. They first asked me to try basic troubleshooting before they sent me a link for replacement. Yes, hopefully the new replacement will not have faulty battery charge anymore.

Now on 7th day and still have 35%battery!

At the end of day 8 battery reached 7% and device displayed critical level warning.

After that I put it on the charger and it took less than 1.5 hours to charge fully.

After that I ran on a treadmill for 30 minutes and went to bed. This "cost" me 3% only as of today's morning.

Bluetooth on my phone is always on.

Charge 5 has screen wake auto and GPS set to phone.

I make ~10k steps per day and don't use exercises like "Walking" (steps are counted automatically).

Mine is made in Malaysia.

Bought from Amazon in late November.

You can also look at the bottom end of the original package, if you still have it.

My replacement (which works perfectly) was also made in Malaysia.

Best Answer

Yep, mine is from Malaysia as well.  After reset, I’m at 49% charge 4.5 days out.

2nd round of testing, day 1.

It was 97% in the morning and now it's 94% in the evening.

So basically, losing about 10% per day when doing 10k steps seems to be normal.
