Charge 5 black screen

  • So I was using my fitbit charge 5 at the gym on Monday. Turned it only weightlifting mode as I always do and left it alone. Went to check my heart rate and the screen didn't respond. Figuring the battery might have died I charged it when I got home, waited a few hours and went back and still nothing.

Googled to troubleshoot possibilities, ive tried pushing the button on the charging cable 3 times within a few seconds, no reposne. I've held the button for 20 - 30 seconds, no response. When the cable meets the back of the charge 5 it doesn't even vibrate. I don't know what else to do.

  • And no I didn't smash it accidentally haha.

Hey @Offblue, it is nice to see new faces around!

Thanks a lot for outlining the steps you've already taken; I truly appreciate it! Let me try to help you out!

Let's start by wiping the back of the device with some fresh water and a toothbrush. You also need to clean the pins on the charging cable carefully with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.

Once you've done that, let it charge for a couple of hours (1 or 2).

Did what you recommended, wiped the lense and cleaned the charging connectors. Left it on charge over night, still unresponsive, tried the 2 reboot steps again, nothing.

I checked my fitbit app and the last sync data it had was from Monday around the time these issue started. It recorded that the battery was at 93%.

My Fitbit Charge 5 is doing the same, completely unresponsive after a charge and not responsive to any reset instructions I have found. No buzzing, no screen, will not connect to the app, nothing. I'm interested to see what you get for a response.

Hey there!

I've done all this also and all I have for my troubles is a black screen, and a red dot on the reverse (solid red light, not flashing). Otherwise exact same experience - suddenly went blank, I let it discharge completely, then charged it overnight, doesn't respond to the cable, or the cable button, nothing.

For info: firmware 57.20001.188.58

This is my second Charge 5, a replacement for one that had the same issue!

My charge 5 is doing the exact same thing as GWL1974, I think it just died a quick death. From working normally to completely dead In one week.  I'm going to try the amazfit, this has happened too many times with multiple fitbit charges for me.  Sad.
