Charge 5 blank screen and won't hold a charge

The screen on my charge5 went black, unable to wake it up. I tried doing the 3 pulse restart process. I see the fitbit logo & then nothing. I had it on the charger for about a 1/2 hour and then was able to sync, however still couldn't see the face. Then I changed the clock face & still can't see the screen - I tried again to change the clock & could see the fitbit logo & progress bar but then it goes black again. I put it back on the charger for about an hour - it charged to 55%. Within ten to fifteen minutes, my fitbit said it was down to 19% and within 5 minutes was dead again.  I charged it overnight & it was only at 50%. I changed outlets & charging adapters, charged to 100%, within 20 minutes it is now down to 18% and tells me to charge it again. When they work, I love fitbit products, when they don't I'm very frustrated & thinking of switching to a different product.

If you check all the other threads about this failure, I think you will see that the Fitbit Charge 5 has a widespread defect that they don't want to admit. I think it probably is time for you to think of switching to a more reliable product.

Welcome back to the Fitbit community, @dtotheanielle!

Sad to hear that you're having issues with your Charge 5. In your case, I'd suggest draining your device's battery completely. Then please give it a full charge for several hours to check whether it's working again as it should.

In case you're out of luck, I'd contact Fitbit support for further assistance:

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Draining the battery and then recharge it????

Really?

I am having the same issues.  The battery is already completely draining itself.  It was charged to 100% yesterday.  This morning, I wake up to find it dead.  I charged it to 55% before I had to go to work.  Then it is "drained completely" for the second time today.  Now, I am charging it repeatedly.  The highest I can get it is 10%.  Then, while it is still hooked to the charger, it is "drained completely" again.  I can not get through to a customer service rep, and all I can find online is people complaining about the same problems and Fitbit representatives saying, "Just reset it; Use the 3 pulse reset method; Change the clock face; Make sure you're charging it properly."

I have had this device 8 months.  I liked it alot until the past 36 hours.

As I look through this and see that over the course of the last month or so there have been a large number of cases just like this.  It is sad that Fitbit is trying to wave this off as their customers do not know how to charge the device that they have obviously been charging since they purchased the thing.  Why would everyone all of a sudden forget how to charge their device????  They need to own up and fix the software issues.

UPDATE:  I just fully charged my device.  Once it got to 100%, I unhooked the charger to put it on.  The screen went black.  I did a full reset (3 pulses), and the battery showed as being completely drained.  It went from 100% to 1% instantaneously.

UPDATE 2:  I just got through to customer support.  I was on hold for about 12 minutes.  The gentleman that asnwered took my name, email, and information.  He then just asked if I had tried the trouble shooting tips on the website.  I said yes.  He waited a few minutes (on hold) then came back and just told me that he would be emailing the info to get a replacement.  He never even asked what the issues were.  He just jumped straight to replacing it or offering a discount on another model.  I even commented that he had not even asked what was wrong, and he just non-chalantly continued saying that I had those options.

There is no way that he would have done that if there was not some information that they have on this model.  It was like he was expecting it to just need replacing.

I tried that today. The charge 5 is getting really hot as it charges. I took it off the charger at 100% and within just a few minutes it was completely dead again. Any other options?  My fitbit is only about 6 months old. I'm sad that it is already having issues.

Hi, @dtotheanielle, welcome, I recommend you do not attempt further charging, follow @Talahthas advice & contact "Customer Support". Make a note of where & when you bought your Charge 5, the agent will need this information to progress to a warranty claim.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
