Charge 5 blank screen

My Fitbit has a black screen. I have tried steps to try getting the screen to come back on.

I removed my device from the app but now I’m not able to add again as I can not receive the 4 digit code on my watch.

Hi, @Wizzy26 , I understand your dilemma!  Without a screen you can’t enter the code.  For that reason it’s best not to remove an unresponsive Fitbit from your account, because that does limit your options for fixing the problem…

But we are where we are!  I would say at this stage your best bet would be to try a restart of your device.  To do that you will need the charging cable originally supplied with your Charge 5.  Please attach the Fitbit to the charging cable and plug in to a power source.  On the flat end of the charging cable there will be a small button.  While the Fitbit is still plugged in and charging press this button 3 times pausing for 1 second between each press.  After your sequence of 3 press pause press pause press pause and a gap of approx 10 seconds the Fitbit should restart.  With luck a restart will prompt the screen to reset any you will be able to re-attach the Fitbit to your account.

If this is not initially successful it is worth trying again a few times, because the exact rhythm of press-pause-press-pause can be difficult to get right, and also it is important not to be impatient for the restart - do give it the full 10 seconds.

However, if after a few tries it still won’t restart I would suggest allowing the battery to die completely.  When you are sure that it is completely dead, please give it a couple of hours charge and then if the screen does not spontaneously appear, try the restart again.

If neither the restart nor the battery depletion method brings the screen back to life then your best option is to get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on contact.fitbit.com .  They will take it from there.

Good luck, let us know how it goes, and welcome to the Community Forums!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Wizzy26. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 has a black screen. Thanks for letting us know that you have tried steps to get the screen to come back on. I'll be happy to assist.

Please don't drain the battery completely. Instead of that, try these steps:

  1. Connect the Fitbit device to the charging cable.
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times. Pause for one second between each press.
  3. Wait for 10 seconds or until the vibration occurs and the Fitbit logo appears.

If these steps don't work out to bring the screen back, I'd recommend contacting our Support Team indicating all the steps you've already followed.

Thank you for your help and advise @Julia_G
