Charge 5 - can't turn water lock off / turn screen on

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I swam afternoon of 8/21 and have not been able to get my screen to turn on or the Fitbit to communicate with my app since so seems to be still in water lock (?).  I tried the double tap - really hard as suggested, and multiple times.  I tried to reset it and it will vibrate when I push the button, but doesn't do anything after doing that three times and waiting (are you supposed to do this with the cord plugged into power or only attached to the Fitbit?  I tried both and neither seemed to work).  I tried letting the battery die - it was at 61% before my swim so should be dead by now (30% per day typically) but can't really tell...

Hi, @PamE22 welcome to the community, you can check the charge status of your "Charge 5" by syncing the app on your phone (In the today screen slide your finger down and release after the green progress bar is complete note the value next to the battery icon in top right) You might note Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?  The fact your device has gone dark on you and you can't restart it on the charging cable points to an absence of juice at the USB socket of the cable. Allowing the device does have a significant charge you can restart it by connecting to the charging cable & pressing the button Update, Restart, and Erase is a link to the manual that is worth your time.

I hope this helps but if you are still stuck please post here again.

Cheers

@Gr4ndp4  It won't sync to my phone.  I tried the reset by pushing the button on the cord three times.  The Fitbit vibrated at each push, but the screen did not come back on.

It had 61% battery prior to my swim, so should not have gone through that in the course of my swim (my battery normally lasts four days).  Is your other thought that my cable is bad?  Or that either the outlet or the box is bad?  I have used the outlet and the box to charge other items, so they both work.

@Gr4ndp4  - any additional thoughts since I followed the steps and they didn't work?  TIA...

Hi, @PamE22, I apologise for failing to respond earlier, the only further thought I have is that the timing of the three presses of the charge cable button seems essential.

See Update, Restart, and Erase in this manual.

So far as your cable is concerned they are robust, unlike the "Sense" charging cables. As indicated in the earlier article about charging you do need to verify you are delivering juice from the USB socket (try charging other devices - don't use a laptop socket)

I hope this helps but if you still can't make progress I suggest you talk to "Customer Support" using the chat facility or phone for prompt attention.

Cheers

I’ve reported it and been asked to return the watch to Fitbit

Thank you for the advice. Tried everything, loads of variations on timing,
nothing worked. Did have issues charging the previous week. Seemed to
charge to 100% no problems this week, but looks like the battery is fried.
Returning to Fitbit today.
