Charge 5 device "cheating" since last update (basing everything on exercise mode)

Before the previous update which was a couple months ago, I thought my Charge 5 was great.  The HR seemed accurate.  If I forgot to activate exercise mode, it still showed accurate HR and would log zone minutes.  If it was in exercise mode, and I was having a break or forgot to turn off exercise mode, it also stayed accurate and would be able to display a low HR.  However since the last update everything seems to depend on exercise mode.  If I were to forget to turn on exercise mode and do any sort of exercise including intense sports like hockey, it barely registers any zone minutes and if I look at it the HR displayed is usually about half of reality.  On the other hand, now if exercise mode gets activated accidentally (or I forget to turn it off) I burn insane amounts of calories and zone minutes while doing nothing.  I've had this happen over and over.  One time it got turned on in my sleep and I somehow got 300 zone minutes while getting a nights sleep (mind you, I have no heart issues).  It's also happened while taking a nap on the couch.  Or just getting an extra 100 zone minutes while sitting on the couch for an hour after a workout.  I wish that exercise worked this way but it doesn't.  Why did Fitbit decide that the device needed to cheat via using exercise mode as the primary determination?  It was working fine before the update

I've noticed this too. Getting wildly inflated heart rate readings when in workout mode, which affects calorie burn etc. It's insane and I've been getting the runaround for the support team, literally for months.
