Charge 5 didn't track my heart rate during my GPS hike

Charge 5 owner here.

I recently did a hike starting the activity through the app and using the phone’s GPS, which I prefer to using the FB, but the app did not record my HR data doing it this way. Is this normal? I’m really hoping it was a one-off issue because GAH…if not, and if this is just the way the app works, that’s super annoying- I need that HR data!

TIA for any advice/ input!

Hello @lucas08 and welcome to the Community.  Based on your description, you were using a old Fitbit feature called MobileRun.  This is a feature I used in 2013-2015 when I used my Fitbit One and Charge HR.  It's a long story, but this is the correct, current behavior for MobileRun.  Your Charge 5 has the ability to use built in or connected GPS.  I don't have a Charge 5 available to go through the settings step-by-step, but you should start your hike from the device with the GPS setting on Dynamic or Phone.
