I was under the impression my Charge 5 Fitbit was water resistant up to 50ft. I was swimming in the sea yesterday, just along the surface, no diving, and after about 15 minutes it just died.
What can I do? Is there any fix for this or am I forced to buy a new one?😭

It says water resistant up to 50m, so you can reach out to customer support.

Same thing. I was playing in the surf at the beach with some kids. I was waist high, so the watch was fairly submerged for a while, but I was still flailing my arms to play with the kids. I got back to the blanket to rest up and boom..watch was black. No response. I did the reset method with the USB cable after washing the charge 5 with some dishsoap to clear out any salt or debris. Charge5 started to vibrate for a sec then the fitbit logo appeared for another second, then it went black after that. I couldn't get past the logo display. I chatted with tech support and told them the same situation. They said, "you have a choice of a 100% replacement of the charge 5 or 50% off another product". I chose 50% off for maybe a versa or sense. I was sent a redemption code for checkout.
Looks like saltwater is a no-go with the Charge 5. I'm not sure about other fitbit products, but I'm going to assume they're as fragile too.
hope this helps.

I submerged my Charge 5 while bathing. Now it will barely hold a charge. I have purchased a new one. I did find a YouTube video showing how to change the battery, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgwhx-k9qKc. I could not find a place to purchase the battery, even though it's something I'm not interested in doing. Good luck!

My daughter and son in law, my daughter and I spend hours in the pool every week wearing Charge 5.
Have not had any problems with water resistance.
PS. It still doesn't allow us to display laps on the screen.
