Charge 5 died the first time I charged it

Hi, just bought a Charge 5 and went to charge it after a low battery alert. It was not fully out of charge. The screen lit up when connected then it displayed something that looked a bit like a QR code and died. Been on charge for a couple hours but zilch. App cant find it either. Any help given to this newbie would be much appreciated!

Hi, welcome back to the Community forums, @Jimbob17..

Thank you for the information provided regarding the issue you're experiencing with your Charge 5.

If this is related to the battery, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this article. If the device is charging, but the screen is completely black, make sure that you've also completed the three pulse restart procedure using the charging cable as described here

I'll be around.

I’m having the same issue. After going through all the troubleshooting steps (screen dim, manual, not tracking oxygen, limit notifications, let it drain completely then fully recharge), my battery now drains in 2-3 days instead on 1. But it’s brand new and not a good product for health tracking if you need to remove it to recharge for hours every 2 days. Is there something else I should try or is mine defective? Seeing there has been a decent amount of activity on this thread I wonder if there were some batches with bad batteries

Thanks David. The first time I did this I connected it to the charger but it wasn’t connected to the mains. I’ve redone it now and it worked - thank you ! 😁

@Lizabelle7 Thanks for sharing that your battery is draining in 2 or 3 days.

Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleIn addition, try to perform a restart following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end if the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Tracking SpO2  (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

Let me know if you continue to have the same problem after the the other recommended steps.

@Jimbob17 That's great news! Thanks for sharing this update.
