Charge 5 doesn't detect my martial arts training

I go in for Aikido, the classes are quite intense ( full contact practice with lots of throws and rolls), but for some reason my band doesn't recognize them as exercising. I have auto detection on, nd expect to see it recognized either as sport or aerobic workout. But the only indicator that I did have any physical activity is on the heart rate page in the app. For example I had my aikido training yesterday, and the heart rate stats say I was in the exercise zone for 1h 14mins, with 34 mins in peak rate, 19 mins cardio and 21mins fat burn zone. It sounds enough to record at least something in the exercise stats, but there are no records at all. I started wearing my Charge 5 during practice around 3 weeks ago, 2-3 classes a week, and none of them was recognized as exercising. Is there a way to fix it somehow? Heart rate stats are good, but it usually just the summary for the day, not the activity stats for particular training sessions as with other exercise types like cycling for example. So it's not that helpful if you had quite active day in general.

Hi, @VolhaV welcome to the community, In the new app touch the icon in the top right corner (If you still have the old app the top left corner)>activity & wellness>exercise> under auto recognize open each in turn, ensure the "longer than" time suits you, make sure the slider in the top right is in the on position >SAVE. Return to the "Today screen" & sync.

I would focus on "Aerobic workouts"

If it still fails to trigger reduce the "longer than" times

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Hello @VolhaV

Auto-recognize is set to longer than 15 minutes by default. The minimum time you can set is 10 minutes.

Although it's a bit of a hassle & doesn't utilize the auto-recognize feature, it might be better to manually start your exercise session when you start class.

This is what I have to do when I do my workouts in VR since my Charge 5 would not recognize my virtual boxing sessions as an aerobic workout.

I already have the auto recognition set to minimum time available, it doesn't help. With manual start of the exercise you can only choose from: run, bike, swim, interval workout, weights and treadmill. Nothing of these really suits my case,  I would probably try interval workout, but it has times and I'm afraid it'll be distracting me from the training each time the countdown finishes.

I guess I still have the old app (Fitbit), and there is no activity & wellness settings, only activity goals. What would be the name of the new app?

Hi, @VolhaV The new app I speak of is the v4.0.1 of the Fitbit app the "Today" screen looks like this with the three tabs at the bottom (this is my personalised focus card)-

To change the exercise shortcuts on your Charge 5 touch the icon in the top left of this screen >Charge 5 tile>swipe up to exercise shortcuts> You can have 6 shortcuts here, if you already have 6 swipe left on those you do not want/use and you can now refill the empty slot with alternatives by touching the "+" in the top right. there are at least 15 alternatives including Martial arts, Kickboxing and interval training.
