Charge 5 doesn't separate active and passive calories

Hi everyone! Sorry if this question was already asked. I’m considering switching from Apple Watch to Fitbit Charge 5 because I need a tracker not a watch and because I need something that I will charge once a week instead of twice a day.

However, I just recently learned that Fitbit does not separate active and passive calories.

So my question is how do you deal with this and how much of an inconvenience this is to you?

Also, is there at least any way to view active calories burned during a workout? I mean without workarounds and mind calculations?

Thank you!

Fitbit includes your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calorie burn in everything.  Some don't like;  some think it would be dishonest not to; after all, those are calories you are burning, especially if you are interested in weight control.

But for each workout, you do get a workout summary including (total) calories burned, and though over a day BMR calories are generally more than half of the calories burned, during a workout, BMR calorie burn is a relatively small part.

@josef264 it doesn't bother me much as I don't see much of practical use for such separation. What I need is seeing projected total (BMR + active projected for end of day). It would be lot more useful. I have such separation on Garmin (for whole day and per each workout I can see active, rest, total and can see summaries of calories filtered various ways) but don't have a use for it as a metric other than knowing it's there 🙂

@josef264   Fitbit uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate your BMR calories.  There are online calculators available.  You can make a mental note of yours and it doesn't change from day to day.  A long time ago, and I mean a LONG time ago, this breakdown was available as part of Fitbit Premium Trainer program (discontinued).  I don't miss it.
