Charge 5 half freezing half screen dimming

Started noticing yesterday that my Charge 5 screen will dim and not go back to black after I have looked at the time/steps etc.

If I go to look at the screen again, it is frozen showing the time of when the screen 'timed out' at half colour/half faded grey, and I have to double tap to unfreeze it.
I have screen set to manual viewing. I have restarted it and that appears to have not fixed anything. The extra screen time appears to be using a lot more battery power as well.

Hello @Afro101

That sounds a lot like how it is when Always On s set on, with the change between color and black and white. But it also sounds like it’s malfunctioning by freezing.

Did you reset it from the device or the charging cable?   If you didn’t try the cable, try that.

Other things to check are that Always On is set to off.  From the Clock Face screen scroll down until you get to Settings, tap, then tap on Display Settings and scroll up until you get to Always On and the warning message. Tap on it and check that Always On Display is switched of and grey.

One other thing to check is that you’re on the latest firmware for your Charge 5, 20001.149.11 and that the App on your phone is also on the latest version: 3.55.

I really hope it’s an easy fix and you have something accidentally switched on…

Thanks for the advice.
While I was waiting, I went through all the settings, ticked and unticked everything (so if it was on, I switched it off and then back on). Then restarted again and it appears to have fixed the issue.

Welcome to the Community forums, @ekrenway.

Thank you for sharing that you've been experiencing the same problem with your Charge 5.

In addition to the three pulse restart and checking that the Always On display option is turned off, I also recommend that you check if the Sleep Mode and Do Not Disturb Mode options are turned off in your device's settings, as these features automatically make the screen darker.

I'll be around.
