Charge 5 heart rate strangeness

I feel like the Charge 5 is constantly getting surprised that I'd want to see my heart rate. Almost every time I turn on the screen it shows me some made up number (usually around 100, even during heavy exercise) and then frantically starts counting up to a more realistic reading. I thought this device would measure my heart rate all the time, not just when I turn on the screen (which btw needs 4 or 5 taps every time to get the hint). So to get my heart rate, I have to wake and rewake the screen multiple times until the device shows me a somewhat realistic reading. 

Of course accumulating active minutes is near impossible like this too, even at full tilt I rarely manage to get this thing to log a heart rate above 110. Not bad for a chubby guy I guess 😉

 

I don't remember my old Charge 3 being this picky in reading my actual heart rate.

Thank you for sharing all these details about what you've been experiencing with your Charge 5. 

Before considering other options, I recommend that you complete a restart procedure, as this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar and with the touchscreen problem. 

In addition, please follow all the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information (like adjusting the position on the wrist).

I already restarted it. Does not change anything.

I did notice a bit of an improvement if i wear the fitbit really high on my wrist and uncomfortably tight. Oh well, better than nothing i guess.
