Charge 5 is double tracking my steps

I was sitting on the couch last night and I synced my Fitbit data.  It had registered 9854 steps.  I synced again and it doubled my steps to 19,709.  I had not gotten up.  This had happened about a week ago as well.  I've restarted my Fitbit and that didn't do anything.  I want to remove 9800 steps from my total but the function to manage the step data only allows you to delete the data in it's entirety.  Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks.

Hi there, @Lorrainev. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. It's sad to hear that your Charge 5 is doubling your steps more than once during the last week. I understand where your concern is coming from. Thanks for the steps you've done so far to correct the issue, I'll be glad to continue assisting you.

Do you have MobileTrack also linked to your Fitbit account? If you do, please note that MobileTrack could be tracking those extra steps. To verify this, please in the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab > then tap Devices. In this section you'll see your Charge 5 and below your phone (in case MobileTrack is indeed connected).

If the above describes your situation, you can remove MobileTrack by tapping on the phone's icon and then select "Remove From Account".

Nevertheless, to make sure that your Charge 5 is accurately tracking your steps, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Regarding your inquiry, please note that you can negate the extra steps in the Fitbit app. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Thank you for your response.

I do not have MobileTrack connected.

My wrist settings and height info are all correct.

I tried to update my step count but I don't have the option to change the steps.  I only have the option to delete it in its entirety.  Here are my screenshots.  These are the same screens I see when I do it through the app

I have the same issue.  What has google done to cause this as prior there wasn’t an issue, mine did this yesterday and today.  Devalues the point of a tracker if it’s making stuff up eh

I just always get very suspicious that I always have stuff ups right after I’ve updated my tracker, which I did on Monday evening.
The app won’t let me  just delete the random 16,000 steps that it says I did between 12 and 1am. What’s the point of a fitness tracker if the steps just randomly double.

I see you are a moderator, would like to see some input please.  All last week it doubled my steps AGAIN! This never happened before google took it over.  Are they going to fix this? This was sporadic over December but now is very frequent.  Is it the app or is it the device?

I am not the moderator. I posed the question originally on January 10th. I did get a response but then responded back to MarrFitbit. Haven’t heard anything back from Fitbit. Thanks.

So far, it’s only done it once for me but it didn’t correct itself over the entire week so then when I got my weekly summary, it said that my steps were 16,000 more than they actually were which stuffs up my competition with my fellow Fitbit friends.
