Charge 5 is freezing and turning off in ‘walk’ mode

I have had a charge 5 for almost 2 years with very few issues.
However a few weeks ago I was using it to track a walk and half way through the screen just went blank. I assumed the battery was dead, but when I went to charge it, the watch came back on immediately with 75% battery.
Since then this has happened at least 4 other times. Th3 watch is charged to 100%, it starts to track the walk but within a mile or so the screen just goes blank and until I can attach it to a charger lead I cannot get it to turn back on.
I’ve seen threads going back to 2022 that detail the same fault but can’t find any fixes?.

What is the point of a fitness tracker that cannot track exercise without turning off??

Sounds very similar to the problem I've been having. 3 days in a row now, it has gone black about half way through my walk.
Mine sometimes goes dead at other times. Like I'll wake up and it will be dead. I'll find from looking at my sleep data that it died in the wee hours for no obvious reason.

But the dying in the middle of a walk has been remarkably consistent. I've only just started trying to get back to walking every day (due to having to deal with some other health issues first). Kinda sad that my "fitness tracker" refuses to actually track my workouts.

Mine has started doing similar, after about 15 minutes it vibrates, screen goes blank then a green tick with “update installed” message appears. Not possible to manually add the walk after either.

the workaround I use is that auto-detect works fine for logging the exercise. I use a separate mapping app to capture route and distance and edit distance into the log.

I'm having the exact same issue.  charge5 unresponsive, apparently after 1200 steps of starting Walk tracking.  Works fine when not starting Walk exercise.  I haven't tried other exercises since this started, but it has worked fine in the past for running and weights.  Attaching to live power cable boots watch back up into a working mode, with startup splash screen at the beginning.  So it seems like something is bricking the device.
I had never noticed or used the Walk exercise selection until a few weeks ago and I don't remember adding it to my available exercise list, but I may have and forgotten.  Has anyone else noticed is "Walk" is a new exercise?  I know it wasn't there about a year ago when I searched for it.  Wondering if this is a new exercise to track and there's a bug?
I will post here if I'm able to find a solution or figure out how to @Mention support.  Also would be interesting to test with GPS set to use phone only.  I have only tried with GPS set to "built-in".

My Fitbit Charge 5 has been doing the same thing. In some cases I can manually log the exercise, today, I couldn’t do that. Also, today the app is not responding. I tried to follow the directions given to others, including changing the clock face, but I can’t even do that! I have restarted the device, cleaned the contacts, force closed the app, and done everything except reset the device. My Fitbit is exactly 3 years old and has been reliable up until the past few weeks. There must be a fix to this, it appears to be a problem for many.
