Charge 5 is not tracking my hear rate accurately

Over the last two weeks i've noticed that of an evening my fitbit suddenly starts recording a heart rate of 150+ for a few minutes - this has happened four times now. I'm watching TV at the time - not running a marathon uphill. I've even checked my heart rate against an oximeter which tells me that my HR is actually about 70 as suspected. This means that all the other data is no longer accurate too - calories, resting HR, zone minutes, readiness scores etc - any way to fix it?

Hi there, @pollyjaney. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. It's sad to hear that your Charge 5 is not tracking your heart rate accurately. I understand where your concern is coming from. I'll do my best to help you with this.

Please note that everal factors can affect resting heart rate: stress, alcohol or caffeine intake, or fever usually raise resting heart rate, while regular exercise or meditation can lower it. Air temperature and certain medications can also affect resting heart rate. For more information, see What factors can affect my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

If the above doesn't help you, I'd suggest resetting the heart rate settings by following the steps below:

  • Switch the Heart Rate settings from On to Off and manually sync your watch. To switch the heart rate settings on your Charge 5, from the main screen of your Fitbit device, open the Settings app > Heart Rate > tap to turn the setting OFF.
  • Once it's done, manually sync your Charge 5. To do so, open the Fitbit app, tap on the Account icon, tap on your Fitbit device's image and tap on "Sync Now"
  • Next, switch it from Off to On and manually sync your Charge 5 once again.
  • Once it's done, restart your Charge 5.
  • Next, confirm that your tracker is snug on your wrist (the lights shouldn't be visible). We also recommend when you're not exercising, wear the tracker just above the wrist bone.

Okay i'll take the steps you suggest and see if the problem occurs again over the next few days-  my heart rate was actually 78 which is what i would expect when sat watching Tv (I checked with another device) - it was your device that falsely showed it as being 150 to 200 bpm  - I've had a fitbit for years and not had this happen before, it seems to be since the latest update. I've included screen shots in case that helps
