My fitbit is tracking miles/steps/ etc while I’m not wearing it?

Hi, @Otis1010 welcome to the community, my theory is that if you put your charge 5 down on a reflective surface the green LED is detected and we get these "Ghost" readings. Next time you take it off put it face down, the LED should stop flashing. A couple of more points, you can delete the suspicious data (if you want to) How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities? - Fitbit Help Center explains the process. I would encourage you to wear your Charge 5 any time it's not charging, if, for instance, you sleep without it on you'll not get the all-important sleep stats.

I hope this helps but if you are still stuck please post here again.

Cheers

Mine seems to double - or more than that - my steps perhaps when I’m wearing the watch and carrying phone - maybe it’s tripling as l also have google (gmail) - whatever it is doing l can never trust the steps, so use primarily to monitor my sleep only, which I need having sleep apnoea!

Hello @DramaQueen58

If you're seeing double the number of steps when you are wearing your Fitbit & carrying your phone, that sounds to me like you have your phone added to your Fitbit app as a tracker.

To check:

  • Tap on the device icon in the upper left of the Today page in the Fitbit app
  • On the Connected to Fitbit page, under Devices, you should see only the Charge 5

If you see you phone, you should tap on it and tap on Disconnect device on the following Phone page. Tap to confirm disconnecting your phone from the app.

The option to add your phone as a Connected device is for when you want to track your steps when you're not wearing your Fitbit. You don't need to have your phone connected for normal use.
