I just set up my Charge 5 and it's showing that I burned over 1000 calories but, how is that possible given I only just received it? Is there a way to reset it or anything I can do?

Hi, @camiis, welcome to the community, How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity? explains the basis of calorie counts, quote -
Your BMR is based on the physical data you entered into your Fitbit account (height, weight, sex, and age) and accounts for at least half the calories you burn in a day. Because your body burns calories even if you’re asleep or not moving, you see calories burned on your device when you wake up and will notice this number increase throughout the day. Unquote
In my case, I have about 2,600 calories as my baseline and burn a further 650 or so from exercise.
I hope this helps.
Cheers

I also have an issue with the calories burns. I understand the BMR, but for the past 2 weeks, my calories burn has been 6500+. There is no way my BMR is that high. Is this a software problem or fitbit problem? I got the charge 5 in Jan and was working great. 2400 to 3000 calories (on strong workout day) .. now 6500+ without working out. Not happy with fitbit because of this. I have reset the fitbit and uninstalled and re installed the app many times. I also chatted with customer service and told me it was BMR. I really don't think my BMR is THAT HIGH.

@SunsetRunner most likely there is a gross error in your weight such as using pounds instead of kg or lack of the decimal point or similar. Please check.

I have double check weight. Also I have unread notifications from 2018, and keep coming back after i deleted them. I have also Uninstaller and re installed app, and 100+ notications come back. This is very frustrating.

@camiisAdding to what @Gr4ndp4 said, the BMR calories are credited even when not wearing the watch, and are backfilled in your history. So the 100 calories you saw would have been your BMR calories up to that point in the day.

@SunsetRunner Also check your units, that you are actually looking at calories burned, not kilojoules.

Hi, @SunsetRunner, I appreciate you are not happy with the response you got from "Customer Support" but I think you should give them another go. Your 2400 to 3000 calories match my own experience and I'm swimming 3000 metres a day in 90 minutes. I'm going to flag this for a moderator's attention.
Cheers

I also deleted notifications several times and they keep coming back. I have Uninstaller and re installed. Cleared cache and memory. And 99+ notifications from 2018 and 2017 keep coming back

@SunsetRunner I don't suppose someone else in your house hold just started using a Fitbit, and maybe connected to the same account?

No, I'm the only one in the household that uses fitbit.

Hi everyone, and welcome to our new members.
Thanks for every step tried prior to posting, and your efforts while contacting our Support team. As our friends mentioned, it's expected to see calories burned even before getting up from the bed as based on your demographics, our system will track your BMR. However, the calories count should remain the same unless you're doing activities. I understand this isn't your case and to further investigate on my end, please provide me with the following:
@SunsetRunner To prevent any confusion, I'd suggest creating a new thread for each of your questions so you can receive more related responses. I'm sure you'll receive help from the Community.
@Gr4ndp4, @Rufous44 and @JohnnyRow Thanks for your great help!
