Charge 5 isn't tracking my steps accurately

Hello! I have noticed my Charge 5 has over the last few weeks stopped counting steps in certain situations. I'll walk all around the house and notice it didn't log a single step. Or maybe it will count 6 steps when I took 50. Other times it counts very accurately. Just can't figure out why sometimes it seems like it just refuses to count my steps, like it's not convinced I'm actually walking?  Feel like I'm probably getting shorted at least a thousand or more steps over the course of a given day. Anyone else observed this or have a suggestion how to correct it?

I wear it on my dominant hand so I tried changing it to non-dominant just to see if that made a difference and it did not. I've tried wearing it looser and tighter.

Hi there, @SW5880. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Charge 5 before reaching out.

In addition to the recommendations provided by @Talahthas, please confirm your height (For more information, see How do I manage my Fitbit profile?)

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Sometimes, when you start walking, your steps may not update on your device right away. After about 10-15 continuous steps, you'll notice the steps catch up and start updating in real time with each step you take. For more information, see: How accurate are Fitbit devices?

On a side note, please make sure that your Fitbit Charge 5 is up-to-date. For more information, see How do I update my Fitbit device?

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @SW5880!

Sad to hear that you're having issues with your Charge 5. As this sometimes works wonders, I'd suggest restarting your device by closely following these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:

1.) Connect your Charge 5 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a power source.

2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).

3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
