Charge 5 keeps disconnecting from my phone's Bluetooth

I got a replacement Charge 5 a few weeks ago after the previous one stopped working whilst still under guarantee.  The new Charge 5 worked perfectly but now it constantly disconnects from the app.  I have tried all the recommended tips including switching bluetooth on my phone off and on again, closing and re-opening the app and re-starting my Charge 5.  I also checked that both the Charge 5 and the app are up to date.  Any suggestions on why this is happening?

At the moment, every time I want to pair my Charge 5 with my phone I have to re-pair it (i.e go through the process of reconnecting it via the app, wait for the four digit number to appear on the Charge 5 screen and then wait for it to pair).  The Charge 5 connects to the app long enough to download the latest stats but then immediately disconnects again.  The pairing never actually completes on the app and I just get the spinning donut saying it is connecting, regardless of how long I leave it.  The problem is the same regardless of whether my phone is on wifi or data.  Obviously it is very tedious to have to reconnect repeatedly all day long.

It seems as though fitbit reliability has gone downhill since it switched to google.  Or am I just unlucky?

Hi there, @Limehouser. It's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still disconnecting from your phone's Bluetooth. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

In addition to the steps you've done so far, I'd recommend trying the following in the order listed even if some of them you've tried already:

  • Unpair your Fitbit device from your phone's Bluetooth and Fitbit app.
  • Unpair other Bluetooth devices that you may also have paired to your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. This can help to prevent connectivity issues or Bluetooth interference.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
  • Set up your Fitbit device.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Fitbit device.
  • Once your Fitbit device is paired and syncing, please proceed to set up your other Bluetooth devices to your phone again.

With the steps above, what I want you to do is to pair your Charge 5 first to your phone's Bluetooth settings before any other Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.

Thank you for those suggestions, which I have tried three times but unfortunately have not made any difference.  Each time my Charge 5 successfully pairs with my phone (it says pairing complete on the Charge 5 screen), the fitbit app gets stuck with a spinning donut and says ‘Connecting to Fitbit…’. I tried leaving it but it was stuck on this screen for hours.  If I then close the app and reopen it, it syncs with my Charge 5 once then disconnects and I have to start the whole process again.  Any suggestions for what is going wrong?  Thanks.

I’m having the same issue with my Versa and have tried all of the above too.   Additionally frustrating as I have to reconnect my sons Ace 3 to the app too but when I switch back to mine it’s already disconnected!

seems to be a huge issue with the Bluetooth connection of the devices at the moment!

I had the same issue with my Charge 5 and finally gave up trying to keep it paired with Bluetooth. Seems to be not an uncommon issue. Unfortunately.

Same issues repeatedly last 2 weeks. This is my 3rd Fitbit and am going to buy an Apple Watch tomorrow.  These last  year or two and die.  Disappointing

Hi, I got a discount on a new one. Given that the watch was only just past a year old and that this is a problem others are having, FitBit should extend the warranty (in my humble opinion). I did purchase a new one with the discount. If this doesn't last long, I am going to go to another vendor, like you. Good luck with your change.
