Hi there,
I have been using the swimming sport mode successfully which activates automatically the water lock mode until the session is completed (although I struggled once to unlock it by double tapping...).
But today I was using the manual water lock function for the first time and it kept unlocking itself as if the contact with the water was acting as the double-tap-unlock-action.
Has anybody come accross the same behavior ? Is it normal ???
I guess I can troubleshoot this by launching a swimming session everytime I go in the pool (even if I go playing with my kids) but it would mean that the manual water lock mode is pretty useless as is.
Any insight anyone ?
Thanks & Cheers
Z

Actually, I am now able to answer my own question (could help whoever is as distracted as I am...).
I didn't pay enough attention but, after tapping on the manual water lock function the screen says to double tap to activate the function. I read to fast initially and I thought it was saying to double tap to disactivate the function so I actually never engaged the water lock function until this morning...
So... after double tapping to activate... well... it activated. And remained activated (with a blue note on the top of the screen saying the water lock mode was ON) until I double tapped again.
So, no problem, all is fine.
@Shanks12 maybe you did like me 🙂 Check it out
cheers

Wow just tried your answer and I can’t get my screen to engage

For me too, 2 taps are not enough. But I continue tapping the screen firmly and it engages (and disengages) after a few, 4 or 5 taps generally.
You need to firmly tap the screen because (for water mode in and off) it is it not using the screen sensors but the accelerometer in the watch instead.
I hope it helps.

I do Aqua Zumba. I double tap the screen before class and it shows the screen is water locked. By the end of the class (I've done 3 with the Fitbit) the water lock has disengaged. I wear a diver's wetsuit jacket, but I fold the left sleeve securely so that it will not accidentally "double tap" the device and disengage the fitbit.
Sometimes the Charge 5 picks up the class as the auto-recognized activity "swim." I then manually edit it to say "Aqua Zumba" thus turning meters into steps. Sometimes it does not record any activity at all. My old Charge 3 was always a reliable tracker for my two Aqua Zumba classes weekly. I'm really disappointed in this Charge 5.The only thing a Fitbit chat agent suggested was to wear the Charge 5 three fingers above the wrist, not two. That did not help.
If I set Water Lock ON, then I cannot scroll through the screen and select swim. If I set an activity (I use "workout" to capture the step count) to start, I cannot scroll and get to setting Water Lock. How are people handling pool classes that do not involve "swimmimg" per se?

I'm so sorry I replaced my reliable Aqua Zumba tracking Charge 3 with this one.

Last Friday, my Charge 3 did not detect SWIM at all, but the Water Lock stayed on, yesterday it detected SWIM but the Water Lock turned off and I had to restart it. Sometimes I have absolute success with Water Lock and auto-detect in Aqua Zumba. I set the Water Lock manually, and let the Charge 5 auto-detect "swim" which I then changed on the website. And sometimes I don't! I'm hoping that the more I use this method, the more reliable it will become.
