Charge 5 - no sleeping record with new Fitbit app

Since purchasing my Fitbit Charge 5 (to replace a Fitbit 3) it has failed to work reliably.

After months of erratic sleep data, the software update 3.83.1/ 3.83.2 seemed to fix things and I received daily sleep data. Then came 3.84 and we’re back to no data.

I do not want to spend hours trying to chat to customer support and to try suggested solutions that don’t work.

it should work from day one! Absolute waste of money. I will not make that mistake again.
