Charge 5 not charging.

I bought my Charge 5 in July of last year, and have been pretty satisfied with it ever since.

Last week I took a nice warm bath, and since the Firbits are advertised as being able to resist being submerged at shallow depths, I decided not to remove it.

After the bath, it was displaying "Water Lock" or something close, but wasn't responding to taps. The next day it stopped taking a charge. I assumed this had something to do with the bath, but when I came here, I see that there seems ro be many people having basically the same problem, but associating it with a recent firmware update.

It seems to me quite likely that I may be experiencing the same problem, with the bath simply being coincidental.

After the bath the Charge 5 was displaying "Water Block" or something close. I let it dry on my wrist, and the next day noticed that it wasn't working, so put it on the charger. I saw the logo, and 1% charge. The next day I put noticed it still wasn't chatged, so put it on the charger again, saw the logo & this time a 0% charge. But once again, it didn't actually charge. I originally thought that some soap may have blocked the contacts, so I washed it w/warm water & dried it. Same thing. So let it dry longer, same thing. But this time I came back several times, tapped it, and if nothing happened, picked it up, then set it back on the charger getting the logo and 0% charged several times. Same thing. Except for the fact that eventually I noticed that despite cleaning the contacts, they appeared dirty. Or... (Crap!) possibly melted. I stopped messing with it and left it off the charger at this point.

But seeing so many people saying it's been only showing the logo, and the charge %, I'm hoping that the bath was simply a coincidence.

Hello @JamezK

It sounds like your device had Water Lock turned on during your bath. The water lock feature (<-- click link) prevents the display from being activated from the water splashing on it.

I found that it takes very firm tapping to turn off the Water lock feature. Do you know if you successfully turned off the Water lock feature?

This help article has the recommended troubleshooting steps to try, including how to clean the contacts: Why isn't my Fitbit battery charging? (<-- click link)

If the troubleshooting steps don't work, you should contact Fitbit support (<-- click link) to find out what are your options under warranty.
