I've tried wearing it in different locations on the wrist. Nothing helps. The heart rate won't keep up. It gets stuck on like 88 when my heart rate on my chest monitor is at 150. Or it will be at 50 when my heart rate is at 80. It's never consistent. And it will not continually update. I had a Samsung active watch and it did great with constantly keeping up with heart rate no matter what I was doing. The Charge 5 just doesn't cut it. It makes it hard to record any workouts. Like lifting. Heart rate goes up during lifting. The charge 5 barely shows an increase and when it does it is delayed by half a minute or so.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @SunsetRunner.
Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with your Charge 5.
If you haven't done so already, please follow the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information and check the information mentioned here about other factors that could affect your heart rate reading, this has been useful to other users who have experienced something similar.
In addition, I recommend that you try restarting the device using the three pulse restart method mentioned here below, instead of the restart option found on the Charge 5 itself:
I'll be around.
