The last couple of days my Charge 5 hasn’t been correctly counting calories. I’ve done 18,000 steps, which it has correctly counted (a walk I do regularly), but it hasn’t attributed any calories to this activity. I am currently on approx 1500 calories, which is more like my BMR calorie count for this time of day. I should be on more like 2300 calories TDEE at this point. It seems to be an issue with the hardware as all the info tracked on the hardware is reflected on the software, even when force synced. I am on iOS. I have updated the FitBit app and iOS, signed out of FitBit and signed in again, closed the app, opened it again, all the usual fixes, nothing has worked. What is happening please?

Are you getting heart rate readings?

The answer is yes and no. Currently yes, I am getting HR readings, and Fitbit is tracking enough data to tell me my resting heart rate and heart rate variations. HR data was not captured over the time of my main activity today though, though seemed to randomly start being captured / tracked again later in the day. I am seeing no variation around the time of my 2 hour+ walk, but some HR variation later in the day when I was standing and moving around while cooking for example.
I had the same issue yesterday. No variation displayed in HR capture through the day (seemingly) despite having done over 17k steps, went to bed with a daily calorie expenditure count of around 1700 calories logged on Fitbit, but woke up to a refreshed calorie count of 2700+ calories burned yesterday, which is far more accurate for the number of steps.
Now looking at resting HR data, it seems chunks of it are missing from yesterday and today, despite me wearing my Charge all day and night both days.
Now I'm even more baffled! How is heart rate data for yesterday missing, but calorie expenditure was somehow magically corrected in the night?

If you were getting heart rate data throughout, I was going to say I've recently seen a couple others with same problem of getting flat calorie burn all day, perhaps BMR, even during workouts, with reasonable heart rate readings throughout, and it has been reported to Fitibit. but now not sure that is quite your case.
Probably not your case, but sometimes when I look at heart rate graphs, seeing about 8 days on a screen, some don't show show whole day's data but when I tap on that day, it will fill in whole day's display.
See this case that sounds similar to yours. I reported it to a moderator who was going to pass it on.
