Charge 5 not tracking sleep properly since app update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Ever since the most recent app update, my Charge 5 has not been tracking my sleep correctly - I only get the simplified sleep summary, no sleep score. The sleep times are off by hours. It still tracks heart rate and steps accurately.

Note: I've been using a Fitbit for 10 years. I know what I'm doing. I wear it correctly, and I keep it charged. Something has definitely changed over the past few days, and it's not anything I'm doing.

I'd appreciate a quick solution to this problem, as the sleep data is the primary reason I subscribe to Fitbit Premium.

I am having the same problem. My sleep scores are in the 69 range because it states I an a waking up at 4 or 5 am each morning.  I’ve worn Fitbits since 2015.   The new App is screwing everything up for me.

@ZoomZ I am having issues with the sleep score as well. Sometimes I get only a simplified graph. Other times I get a detailed graph but no score. And then I also at times get the detailed graph with a score. Frustrating, as this is a feature I find important.

I typically sleep 7 hours. My Charge 5 has been logging less than 2 hours each night for my sleep times … any idea on how you get this adjusted ?

Ever since I got the new App my sleep score is screwed up.  Why they had to fix something that wasn’t broken is beyond me. I have worn Fitbits since 2018.  This will probably be my last one.

my charge 5 has not given me a sleep score since October 9. I haven’t changed anything. It is messing up my sleep log because you need  a sleep score for the log. I , too , would like a resolution.

Same with me - I bought a new Fitbit this September and after only a couple of weeks , my sleep score stopped working properly - I now only get the simplified one and cannot work out why.  I tried contacting customer services but got a chatbot and the issue has not been resolved.  I’m thinking of taking the Fitbit back as it is still under warranty.  I primarily got it for sleep tracking and steps and I can get the steps from my old Fitbit or my phone. Not at all happy with the product or the support.

Ditto the other replies to this post regarding deteriorating sleep data since the latest update (which didn't seem to bring any benefits).

No data at all for my sleep score this morning - very disappointed and hoping that this will soon be fixed.

I have also being having problems with my sleep score.  It only records my score for a couple of hours, not for the entire night.  This started happening with the new update.  So annoying!  Sure hope they get the problem fixed soon.

I can agree with everyone on this thread that the sleep tracking is very erratic at best. Admittedly, this has always been somewhat of an issue even for me before the new app update, but it seems to be all over the place now. Most of the time the problem for me, is that it will miss about and hour or so when I go to bed, but then the wake time would be pretty close. Other times, it would only track a couple of hours, and there have been times when it's almost spot on, although this seems to be the exception. There also has been the occasion when it has tracked nothing during the whole night, although I believe it only did this once. So the key word for me is "erratic" as far as how it's tracking sleep.

What I've started to do, because of other posts I've read about this issue, is I will sync my C5 right before I go to sleep, and then again in the morning before looking at my sleep and the score. It seems I usually will get a score, whether the tracking was correct or not.

Strangely, even though at times it misses the first hour or so at the beginning of the night at times, I've found if I lie down on the couch for about an hour in the afternoon it will track that. I just delete those, but it just seems strange it can pick up on that, but misses some time when I first go to bed.

Since the new app, My Fitbit states I sleep until only 4 or 5 am each night.  My sleep scores have dropped from the low 80s to the mid 50s.

I understand the frustration when one's sleep log is not correct, considering that I've experienced the same issue.

If the app shows your sleep wasn't properly tracked, you can edit the log with correct your sleep and wake times. You may need to delete a log if you get a message that the app couldn't accept your edits because there's already a log for it. After you make the edits, it may take a couple of hours for the app to update your sleep log and sleep score.

Although it's kind of scary to delete a sleep log, it took me a while to accept that when you delete a log, you are only deleting a time interval, not the data. Unless you do a factory reset without syncing first, the data should still be in your device. From the information I've read, your Fitbit is supposed to maintain up to 7 days of data.

@RiekoC I have tried doing that, with no success. Still get whatever I had before -- a limited graph with no score or sometimes a detailed graph and no score. I've even tried adjusting the sleep time a little to see if that makes a difference. No luck.

@RiekoCNot sure it it was you, but someone was talking about editing their sleep log if it didn't track correctly, in a post I was reading at the time about this issue. I had to ask, why on Earth would you keep track of you're own sleep so you could edit the log if it wasn't correct? Isn't that why we bought it, so it could keep track of it for us? That's like saying if you took a walk and you knew the steps were way off, you should start counting your steps so you could compare it with the steps that were logged by your Fitbit, and then edit it. That's just me though.

Over the last week, I've had 2 nights where it seemed to calculate my sleep correctly, 3 nights where I got a simplified sleep score and no data, and 2 nights where it said my sleep ended around 2 or 3 in the morning, which was inaccurate. In other words, it has been completely unreliable.

I am having similar issues - my sleep stops tracking at 5 and and my SpO2 is off too. Yesterday it didn’t track my activity. I’ve tried charging and syncing and updating the app and issues continue. Super frustrating

I spent 30 minutes with Fitbit support yesterday.  Reset everything and changed sensitivity.  I woke up at 8 am with a hope things were corrected. Guess what?  The Fitbit still had me up at 5:15 am with a poor sleep score. I give up.  Ever since the new app came out my Fitbit performance is incredibly bad.

Experiencing this as well as other issues with my Charge 5. I’ve had multiple fitbits over the years and this will be my last. It’s not every night but I get frequent readings saying I woke up at 4 or 5. Would appreciate this issue being prioritized as my favorite features have all slipped away- games/competitions, UHC Motion app widget, now this. Annoyed to say the least.

There is something strange going on. I get these break-ups of tracking during sleep, so the sleep score is eschewed. Not firmware-related since I have not been offered an update. But have the latest app version installed, Fitbit user since 2015. Sleep sensibility set to normal.

I am experiencing the same problem. Have been wearing FitBits for years and never had problems before. Since the night of 15/10 my device has monitored half of my nights sleep only. I see many people are experiencing this problem recently. It needs fixing as a priority by FitBit. At the moment I could not recommend any FitBit device as this is a very inconvenient malfunction.
