Charge 5 only tracks basic sleep

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The last 2 days my Fitbit 5 only tracks basic sleep. I have done all the resets I have it track the heart so that isnt the problem so what is going on? I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it since the app was up to date. I just purchased the tracker 3 weeks ago have had no problems until now. Help! I did not buy the premium plan since wanted to see how the band did. So am glad now I didn't.

Hopefully we can get help with this. Has been 2 days now. After all the troubleshooting now I guess we just wait.

SENIOR, just happened today. Have been using since Christmas 2021. If I get up during night , say 4 a.m. , it only tracks to that time and not when I go back to bed and sleep.

I went and removed the app yesterday then added it back, restarted my band again and complained to the app maker through email and complained on the app on Play Store giving it 1 star. Today it is now back to working. We will see how long it stays there! Hope it is back to normal!! So maybe try all that? If you haven't all ready.

I wish I'd never bought mine! My charge 2 was so much more accurate! I've only had the charge 5 a couple of weeks and if it decides to log any sleep it's literally 30/40 minutes at a time and never gets above the 3 hours needed for proper analysis.  I know I'm a bad sleeper which is why I wanted the "better" charge to give me more accurate ratings but it's completely useless!

It also randomly logs me having a swim in the morning when I'm simply getting out of bed to get ready for work! (The device is showing normal time etc but the app then brings up a swim!) It just seems to log whatever it wants and not what I want/ need it to do! So frustrating!

Me too, had it 4 weeks, was working fine, this week, it only registered 2 out of the last 6 days. I've done all I think you can do, had the thing so tight that it left identations, no clue.

All the while, the HR sections shows it got readings 24/7.

My problem of not monitoring my sleep after I got up at 4 a.m. for washroom went away when I took the charge5 off to have a shower. Up to that point I had left it on during my shower. There are so many different problems with different people.

-------------

I took mine off when having a shower and for some reason that worked. Previously I wore ir during shower and it worked fine until it didn't . Will see how long it lasts.

Yes it also said I swam. I went to my setting and removed that movement. I also was getting ready for the day!..lol guess we get a lot of arm movement when we get ready!!

------------

Mine did that also. I had to take my dog outside during the night. It did start a new sleep 30 minutes later. Even though we were up for only 5 minutes.

------------

I never shower in mine. Figure I don't need to worry about being monitored during that time.

------------

Well they are warrantied so if push comes to shove we can return it. Which I hope that doesn't happen.

I was also a bit frustrated to see that my sleep times were not accurate, sometimes by as much as 2 hrs. As mentioned in another reply, I found that once I take it off to shower it will refresh itself so to speak, to show the correct time. Nothing to do with taking a shower, just taking it off I guess.

I always remove mine before a shower. It was strange that mine did that for 2 days straight in a row. After I took the app off and then installed it again plus restarted my band afterwards then the next day it was working with the sleep. So am keeping my fingers crossed!

I took mine off for my shower yesterday   did a complete reset, moved it to my non dominant arm,  changed sleep sensitivity to normal..... woke up this morning after the best night's sleep I've had in a long time.... but fitbit shows nothing! Sooo frustrated as I only upgraded to the 5 because it was waterproof and I've started swimming....I'm hoping the swimming will help with my sleep and wanted the fitbit to prove it! Grrr

I gave up and am returning mine. For the price plus the extended warranty I expected it to work better. Mine is already on the way back to Fitbit. Good luck!

It's frustrating that I always finding issues with the sleep start time..often by 1-2 hours consistently. wake up time and tracking during sleep seems to be accurate. I feel it might be under measuring my deep sleep from time to time, but I can live with that for now

Hi everyone, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums.

Thank you for sharing all this information regarding the problem you're experiencing with your Charge 5.

As some if you mentioned earlier, please take into consideration that there are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

If you continue to experience the same difficulty, please complete a restart procedure following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end of the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

In addition, please wear your device on your non-dominant hand and monitor it for the next few days. Since the sleep stages depend on the heart rate information, I would also recommend following all the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information: How to I improve the accuracy of my heart rate rate reading?

Hope this helps, I'll be around.
