Charge 5 only works when it's connected to the charger

My charge 5 only works when connected to the charger. If I take it off the screen goes black and it’s unresponsive. I’ve done all the reboots, removing and reinstalling the app, several times over the last few weeks. I guess fitbits are disposable since I’ve had 2 and neither have lasted more than 1 1/2 years. Very disappointing. Won’t be buying another.

 

Update: Can anyone help with this? Last time the only thing that fixed the problem was an update, so I’m at the mercy of the developers to send one out. Very frustrating.

As per the description of your post, it seems like your Charge 5 has ran out of battery and it won't properly charge (that's why it only works intermittently when connected to the charging cable). With that being said, please try all tips and recommendations provided here Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?

I have the same issue. The charge 5 will show 100% after being charged then synced, when disconnected from the charger and then synced it says battery empty.

I have the same problem with my Charge 5. I tried out all the tips in the link suggested, none of them helped. The fitbit screen goes black once it's not connected to charger. I will reach out to Customer Support and see if there is any other suggestion.

Contact customer support and after a few troubleshooting ideas, finally changing the clock face resolved the issue.

Which clock did you switch to?

Hi & welcome @DandyLionGreens 

It doesn't matter which clock face one chooses when using this troubleshooting step. What you are trying to do is get the device to respond and the display to come back on. If it's successful in fixing the issue, you can change the clock face back to your preferred one.
