Charge 5 overestimating heart rate when I track exercise

I have been a long time Fitbit wearer and worn many Fitbit devices over the years. I’ve noticed with all of them but more so with the charge five that when I tell it I am starting an exercise it immediately elevates its tracking of my heart rate. I can be at a resting heart rate of 60 bpm and when I tell it I’m about to start lifting weights it’ll immediately say that I’m now at 140 beats a minute before my workout has even begun. Is anyone else having this experience? Is there anything I can do to make this accurate? It makes me lose confidence in the device when I know my heart rate is not that high and I’m getting credit for a level of exertion that I’m not putting in.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @Emaich.

Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with your Charge 5.

Before considering other options, I recommend that you try restarting the device again using the three pulse restart method mentioned here below, instead of the restart option found on the Charge 5 itself:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times, pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

In addition, please follow the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information and check the information mentioned here about other factors that could affect your heart rate reading, as this has been useful to other users who have experienced something similar.

I'll be around.
