Charge 5 reset my step count after charging it

I have read a bunch of reviews where people state that their steps are still there when they charge their Fitbit.  I have only let the battery accidentally run down twice now and it started me back at 0 steps both times.  Today I didn't get any email notification that the battery was low and pretty sure I was at 60% power just 2 days ago.  It worked all day today and I looked at the time on it earlier.  About an hour later it was completely dead, so I charged it and it reset me to zero again.  What are the odds the steps will catch back up eventually?

Hi there, @Tsg91. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and bringing this to my attention. I find this odd, I understand where your concern is coming from. I will do my best to help you with this!

As a first approach, I'd like to know how often you sync your Charge 5? Do you sync it daily or every other day? To avoid any data loss, we suggest syncing your Fitbit device daily.

Data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day. Each time you open the Fitbit app, your device syncs automatically when it's nearby. Have you experienced syncing difficulties lately? If you have, please see Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

About your steps lost, if you remember the exact amount of steps or the name of the activity you performed, you can try manually logging the activity. For more information, see How do I manually log exercises in the Fitbit app?

Regarding the battery draining quicker than expected,
please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this article to improve battery life in general, as this has been generally useful for other users. In addition, please complete a three pulse restart following the steps listed here below:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end if the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after a few hours.
