Charge 5 screen went blank after swimming with it

ANSWERED

I had a used FitBit Inspire 2 for over 2 years when I decided to buy a Charge 5 watch. I was very happy with my Inspire 2 except that the underside stuck out too much and was uncomfortable on my wrist. I was looking for a comparable option that had a slimmer design.

I was so excited to have a new FitBit watch that was still small, but more comfortable.  I’ve had my Charge 5 for TWO MONTHS, and the screen went blank after I went swimming. I have worn it in the shower since the day I got it, and I never had a problem. But when I went swimming yesterday, the screen blanked out. I can’t even get it to connect to my phone now.

So FitBit (or Google), get off your high horse and FIX IT. In all the other posts that I’ve read, the rep just says “thanks for being a part of the FitBit community. Let me offer you some replacement options etc.” That is not for this problem. What is the point of having a fitness watch if we can’t even swim with it?

What am I supposed to do now? Spend more money on a new Charge 5? Oh wait, then I will have to take it off every time I go swimming! Get your act together, Fitbit!

No condensation, no vibration, green light for an hour, then it tuned off.

UPDATE: I disconnected the band pieces and put the main watch in dried rice for about 24 hours. Then I connected it to the charger. Now, it seems to be working.

I’m still upset that I can’t swim with my watch. At least it works now. I was struggling to manage my time without it.

Hello @JustSarahD

Since your Charge 5 is less than a year old, you should contact Support (<-- click). Complete the prompts until you get the option to chat or call. Support will let you know what are your options under warranty.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @JustSarahD. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 screen went blank after you went swimming with it. I'll be happy to assist.

I understand how frustrating this could be and your tracker is water-resistant to 50 meters. Please reply to the following:

  • Does your device show condensation?
  • Does it vibrate when you press the side?
  • Do the green lights on the back turn on?

Thank you for your assistance @RiekoC
