Charge 5 screen won't turn on after swimming with it

After swimming my screen will not come on at all. No stats showing on the app. Have tried connecting to power and doing a restart but nothing happens. One time it started to vibrate but suddenly stopped but nothing on screen at all.

Hi there, @LuluGould. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. It's sad to hear that your Charge 5 stopped working after swimming. I appreciate you've taken the time to try fixing this issue prior to posting here, I'll continue assisting you.

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
I have cleaned the connections and when I first connected it, the blue Fitbit logo came up instantly went out and now the screen has remained black again. On pressing the little button on the power supply it vibrates awhile then stops.
I have kept it plugged in and occasionally it is just vibrating a bit, but nothing is happening.
Please us there anything else I can try
Thank you

I’ve the same problem today after getting out of the pool. The Fitbit display just turned blank. When I wore it, I can still see the my steps are still tracked on my iPhone but I cannot see any display on the Fitbit.
Can anyone help?

This is the 3rd Fitbit that I had problem after I swam with the Fitbit. The first time was a Charge 4 Fitbit. Although it specified water resistance, I had the same problem after I swam with it. The 2nd time was a Fitbit Charge 5 which had the new water locked feature before I swam. Immediately after swimming with it my Fitbit did not work. It was during the warranty period and so I received a replacement. For a long time, I didn’t want to swim with it and removed my Fitbit whenever I go into the pool. Recently, I decided to try swimming with it and this is what happened after my swim. Unfortunately, I am no longer eligible for another replacement. 😕 While I enjoyed my Fitbit, I’m disappointed that the water locked feature did not help in protecting the Fitbit. Until Fitbit improve its waterproofing, it better not to swim with the current Fitbit Charge 5.

Thank you for your reply.
I think I also am now out of warranty, unfortunately not in a position to buy myself another one. I am wondering if it could be repaired

Hello,  I have done all the steps suggested and I have tried restarting but nothing happens. Is there any other way to fix this issue?

Great news. After I kept repeating the three button reset this morning I had the Fitbit logo come up, then it started to charge. It is now fully charged and working. Fingers crossed this will continue. I don’t think I will risk wearing it in the water when I am swimming again just to be safe.
hopefully other people can get the same results.

My fitbit charge 5 also died after swimming with it, even though I switched the waterlock on. They sent me a free replacement, but that also failed after swimming! Even though it was only 9 months old, they refused to replace it because my ORIGINAL  warranty had expired. Never buy a charge 5 if you want to use it while swimming!!

Currently having the same issue, very disappointed in the water lock feature and not being able to wear it while I swim. Thanks for your help. I'm hoping it comes back to life.

Good day Fitbit, My fitbit charge 5 also died after swimming last week. Got it reset after a few days but after a new swimming activity it stopped complete. Such a shame that the quality is so poor.

I contacted support and was never able to get it working again. They sent me to the warranty department but I already knew it was out of warranty. Then I received an email from them with a 50% discount on a new tracker!
