I wore my Charge 5 yesterday swimming it didn't track the laps, like others gave mention. Then, while I was getting out of the pool it started vibranting out of control it was freaking me out, so took it off and I noticed a red light on the back and when I filpped it over the thing went black.
When I got back to the house I tried charging it, the Fitbit logo appeared then went black again and it started vibranting again till it did died again.
I placed it in a baggie with those things that are placed in your vitamin and medicine botels for a few hours. While I started researching what the heck happened.
Found how to restart the thing, I tried multiple times the logo would appear and then go black again. I was getting annoyed because the Charge 5 is supposed to be able to go swimming, track your laps and instead it crapped out! I threw in the baggie again and left it overnight with those that remove moisture.
This morning, I connected it to the charger again and nothing. I held the button on the plug a good 20+ seconds logo appeared, still nothing. Took it off the charger and this time a green light appeared! Possibly a good thing, so placed it back on the charger and it showed the logo again and appears to be charging extremely slow. I'm hoping it will fix things but not too sure.

Try resetting using the button on the charger cord, located on the flat part of the cord where it plugs into the USB port.
If that doesn't fix it immediately, time to contact customer support and get it replaced.
