Charge 5 starts day with 20000 steps!

Occasionally my Charge 5 will suddenly log some multiple of 10K steps spontaneously. Like this morning as soon as I put it on (didn't sleep with it on) it showed 20000 steps. In the past it has suddenly logged 60000 steps. 

 

Restart does not fix the issue.

 

Definitely a bug but not easily reproducible. It's only happened a few times in the last 6 months but throws off my data.

 

Anyone else run into this?

What is the Charge 5 laying on when it is not on the arm. Some have found vibrations of a fan, or in my case when I laid it on the dryer, adds false steps. 

If you can see what time the steps where added, they can be removed.

Good thought, though in this case my fitbit is always on a very stable surface at night.

 

Strangely, the 20K steps all appear at 00:45am at once (spike) so definitely something wonky.

 

But... I was able to follow the instructions for removing the steps by adding a "Driving" activity that overlapped the spike time. That effectively masked the erroneously logged steps.  So thanks for the link!
