Charge 5 stopped working after getting wet

Hubby and I went fishing a week ago.  On the way back, they both got splashed.  His has been fine, but mine has not gone properly since.  It charges, goes for less than 5 mins and then dies.  Only counting some steps, nothing else.  The green light on back of watch does not flash anymore.  This is supposed to be water resistant to 50 metres and deal with splashes.

Hi, @Bubbleofbarb if you think your Fitbit might have got water inside it sometimes help to put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 48-72 hours.  The rice should help absorb and moisture inside.  Once you have done that I would recommend giving the Fitbit a good charge and then a restart .  You should also check to make sure that the heart rate sensor is set to ON.  (You can check this on the Fitbit itself - swipe down to find the settings menu.). If it is set to ON but the green lights still aren’t flashing, please turn if to OFF, wait a moment, and then turn it back on again.

Hi there, @Bubbleofbarb. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 has stopped working after getting wet. I understand where your concern is coming from. We're here to help!

I agree with @Julia_G, if your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process that Julia_G also suggested? If it didn't, please note that sometimes a Fitbit doesn’t seem to be charging when actually the issue is that it has become unresponsive (this can happen if the battery has been allowed to discharge completely, like in your case). I'd recommend putting it on to charge on a charging wire and outlet known to be working.  Leave it on the charger for a good two hours, even if it doesn’t seem to be charging. 

Nevertheless, if nothing seems to be working, please try the following:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.
