Charge 5 stopped working after getting wet

I’ve just gone in the pool on holiday (last year was fine) only for 5 mins having a swim and my Fitbit charge 5 has stopped turning on. I can see moisture inside the back where the green LED flashes but the screen seems ok. When I press the button on my USB 3 times the Fitbit logo comes on then straight off again. I feel ripped off because it should be working but it has failed somehow. Can anyone help please. Thanks.

Hi there, @dannygsxr. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5. I understand how you must be feeling.

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

My Charge 5 also went black after it got wet from the shower, accidentally. I took it off and dried it and then let it air dry. It was 100% charged last time I took it off the charger. Then I didn't check it until end of day, and it was dead. This evening, I plugged it in when I got home - said it was 1%. Checked it later, it was back up to 99%. Took it off the charger and put it on. An hour later, it's back down to 1% again. It never would turn on. It does vibrate when I put it on the charger. I tried to reset it, and the fitbit logo shows up and it vibrates, but then it goes dark again. I can't get it to turn on, and the battery doesn't hold a charge. I haven't made any changes to it at all, recently. HELP!!!

What if your Fitbit DOES vibrate when attaching to charger, but still stays black; and goes from 99% down to 1% power in less than an hour, when I used to get several days out of it?? PLEASE HELP!!!

That’s pathetic, you should be able to swim with it no problem, there’s definitely a design flaw with it. Last year I swam with mine fine, in swimming pool and the sea. But this year it died as soon as I got in the pool

I had this experience last year wear I wore it swimming in a pool and moisture got trapped and just died. I was sent a replacement and a year later after avoiding all water I accidently wore it in the shower for less than a minute and took off immediately. The display went on the fritz and I had to charge, restart and then the display came back on. But now when I workout and sweat, which duh is going to happen, the display does crazy and the watch dies until I can charge again. Support has done nothing and says I don't fit the warranty. Also disappointing that I just renewed my premium membership for a product that doesn't work consistently. The charge 5 is not water resistant even when taken care of and after a year you can pretty much count on it dying.
