Charge 5 stopped working after getting wet

Have had my Charge 5 for 2 years, I am on vacation last week and went swimming and now it’s dead. Tried the button on the charge cable 3x still nothing. I use it for workouts and tracking my steps and now dead on my trip. It states it’s good for up to 50 feet, I was just floating in the water. So disappointed. Hope I can get a replacement once I am back home and definitely would not swim it ever, definitely not water resistant.

Hi there, @MarioAs. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still unresponsive. I understand why you're feeling frustrated, I will do my best to help you with this!

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

Regarding your concern, most Fitbit devices are water-resistant to 50 meters. They're designed to be swimproof and stand up to even the sweatiest of workouts. However, if your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

Hello
Thanks for your response. I plunged my Fitbit Charge 5 in a bag of rice about 3 hours afterwards. I was swimming in salt water but never rinsed the tracker. I'm thinking that it's done.
I've tried charging and resetting it to no avail. It does vibrate when I go to reset it, but the logo is still flashing.
Looks like I'm destined to get a new one.
Fortunately I keep my old trackers. My first one - a Charge 2 - is still working so I'm not without a tracker. (Although for some reason, I can't seem to get my old Charge 3 to work - just a black screen on that one)

I have experienced this exact scenario last week...on vacation, locked my Charge 5 for a swim, when I came out of the water, it was dead. It has been dead since. I tried to reset it but nothing happened. This is so frustrating because I got this device just so I could swim with it! Fitbit devices are not designed to last, I've been gone through several now.

Had a similar issue. My Charge 5 got splashed a bit with the hose this week and later that day the screen stopped being responsive. It still charges and tracks my data, and the screen comes on briefly when resetting, but it no longer responds to touch ever. Add that to the now 12 hour battery life.
